I was recently gifted this beautiful book by a very special friend, I know there have already been lots of excerpts from it on social media, and even in my last blog, but it is beautiful in its simplicity, the message is so strong right now. It’s an easy read and very poignant, easy to dip in and out of when you need some inspiration or just a little boost. I have chosen a few of my favourites for you, I hope you like them. I highly recommend it, so much so that I want to give it to everyone, read on...
Life can become too much at times, overwhelming even and I have recently decided to take a social media break every day for some time, my phone is usually always with me (it counts my steps), and I generally answer messages and emails almost immediately but that kind of call on your time is really far too demanding and often depressing, hence the need to take a break, a chance to recharge. I really think it is essential for our mental health, so if I don’t respond to you straight away, I’m not ignoring you I’m just taking a break. After all, not so long ago, nobody was immediately available and although there are definite advantages to modern technology, just like everything it has a downside. I, for one, feel like I never switch off unless I’m asleep and since my phone doubles as my alarm clock it’s even there then, although on silent, but you get my meaning it's never far away!
Let’s be honest the news is so depressing right now! We are in a sorry state apart from the Covid situation (which thankfully seems to be improving) I only watch an update once a day, but then with wild fires, floods, etc., due to global warming and now Afghanistan, many of you will have seen my posts about this and I make no apologies that I am still going on about it as it’s such an awful situation and I feel so powerless, apart from lobbying MPs, Governments and signing petitions, sending aid etc., what can we do? From our privileged position in Europe we can’t begin to imagine what this is like and what the people there are going through, I feel so lucky and blessed in my own life and although I try to give back when I can, it never seems enough. Afghanistan strikes a chord with me because I sponsor a girl there, it helps her family also and she has been doing so well in school, but now what? Action Aid are monitoring the situation. I understand the other side of the story I really do but is it fair to just abandon them?
Not so long-ago people were all pulling together, and it was like we were all working as a community, each of us concerned for our family and neighbours, united in our goal to defeat Covid, (I’m sick of talking about that) it really wasn’t that long ago, was it? But now that camaraderie seems to have been all but forgotten. I went for a short morning walk the other day, short walk because it’s so hot! I didn’t need my mask as I was outside, so I smiled at three people on the way, nothing, nada, zilch. I was surprised as Malta used to be such a friendly place, add to this the rudeness of a server at a bar when I was out recently and I began to feel that there was a common thread, people have just stopped caring, not everyone obviously but it’s such a pity, I’m left asking the question why? Thank you for listening to my rants today, a problem shared and all that.

So hence this lovely book to cheer you all up and as I haven’t yet had a giveaway this summer, I would like to gift a copy of this beautiful book to someone, just to spread a little happiness. All you need to do is leave me a comment on the blog, either on the website, Facebook or Instagram if you're not already signed up to the blog, and I will randomly select one lucky person to receive the book. If you already have the book, I will choose something else for you, just let me know.
And just to make you all smile as there’s not enough smiling going on, please see below!!!
