As women we often take on the role of caregivers whether that is to a partner, children, parents, and so one, we seem to take on this mantle almost automatically, but today on International Women’s Day I’d like to remind us all that we should also make a point of taking care of ourselves, we are often told we cannot pour from an empty vessel, that we have to have the energy to be able to care for others effectively otherwise we end up burnt out and that is no good to anyone.
Make sure you take care of yourself first. Self-care and self-love are essential. Take time out for you, this can be doing anything that suits you, read a book, have a bubble bath with candles and wine, anything that your busy life doesn’t normally give you time for. As many of you know I am a regular at the spa, 'Myoka Golden Sands' being my personal favourite, this is my zen place and it helps me in many untold ways. I have more time now to take better care of myself and I do, I highly recommend it.
Other ideas maybe take a walk or hike in nature, or another one of my favourites – retail therapy, coffee or lunch with friends. I find time spent with my girlfriends invaluable, we have known each other many years and have helped each other through many things, both happy and sad, they are my confidants, my sounding boards and equally I like to think I am theirs. Also for me time with my girls is always special and even more so now they are away, we have the ability to make each other laugh until we cry, never underestimate the power of laughter!
To coin a phrase, ‘Ladies fix each other’s crowns’,
that lady by your side can be your greatest ally, treat each other well and with respect, and again make self-care a priority. To all my lovely ladies out there, ‘Happy International Women’s day’
