HAPPY EASTER!

Writer's picture: JanetJanet

I find myself at a loss for words, not usual I know, something new for me! What is happening to the world we live in? Why can’t we all just live in peace? At times just recently I’ve felt overwhelmed by all the things that are going on around us. Firstly, I’ve stopped watching the news more than once a day, I feel I need to know what is going on but not constantly. I have donated money and clothing and have done what little I can to help from here but still feel helpless, my heart breaks for all those little children who one day went to school and the next were sheltering in basements, for those that have lost loved ones. I despair at the behaviour of some of our world leaders, most of you will know what I’m talking about here, how can they justify their behaviour??? I’m shocked and sickened by the behaviour of some of the human race, when I really thought little else could shock me.

However, sad as it all is and it is really sad, I wanted to bring a little cheer your way today, to make you smile and share some happier eventful news, especially since it is Easter Weekend! I love Easter it’s a great excuse to eat chocolate, not that I ever need an excuse for that. My youngest is also back home for a short trip which is always wonderful, busy but wonderful, the boomerang empty nest springs back into action. Although the world is currently reeling, personally it’s a happier time within the Gilson clan. We welcomed our newest addition mid-February, our little grandson Arthur arrived, much to the delight of everyone. It was different this time as covid restrictions were still in force here in Malta, they are beginning to ease now, but in February we still had to abide by them, so we didn’t see as much of him as we had done with his sister, but we are slowly making up for that now. Wedding season is fast approaching and the countdown to the wedding is now on……

Last month I also had the pleasure of attending a 100th birthday celebration, what an amazing achievement for a very dear friend, Margaret, it was a wonderful celebration of her life with all her nearest and dearest, I want to find out what her secret for a long life is, when she tells me I’ll pass it on! But you know life, full of ups and downs, my mum had a fall and broke her hip, but she is home and making a good recovery, it’s hard when you are 83 and used to being so independent.

Time seems to be flying by and hard as I try I cannot seem to slow it down, not even a little. I recently watched a film called ‘About Time’ it’s about a young man that at the age of 21 discovers he can travel back in time and change what happens or has happened in his own life, sometimes working out and other times not working out so well or as he had anticipated. It was mostly light-hearted and enjoyable, but it had me pondering on changing things, whether I would change anything in my past if I had the chance to do so, obviously some changes incur massive repercussions and although I would change some small things, I wouldn’t want to change a lot as I firmly believe that our experiences shape us and make us into who we become as adults. It also made me think that you have to try and make the most of every day, live in the moment and try not to have any regrets. At the end of the film his father dies but he has the chance to go back to see him several times and tell him things he had always wanted to say, spend time with him. If I could have one superpower, I think I would choose time travel, it would be such fun. I have always wanted to be able to travel in an instant, like in Star Trek, ‘beam me up Scotty’ being torn between two countries, as I am, I would find that extremely useful just now, I don’t like long journeys I find them exhausting!

In other news, you may have seen on social media that I have a story in a book that is about to be published, I’m super proud of that. Obviously, I haven’t read the other stories in the book, but I am looking forward to being inspired by other women too, the book is called 'Rise: An Anthology of Women's Stories' by Katie Oman, it will be available on Amazon shortly.

And on a final note, for all you Bridgerton fans out there, I'm sure you already know, it’s back, yay! With such wonderful writing and brilliant lines that make me smile, such as “A life of independence is no mere consolation, indeed many would think it the better prize, after passion cools and fate intervenes, who else is a woman left with but herself!” Lady Danbury, brilliant! And of course, I love Lady Whistledown!

Here’s hoping that by the time I write again the world will be a better and more peaceful place.
